ABOUT
About the Project
Humans all have the capacity to experience trauma. ‘collective trauma’ is not just defined as trauma people experience stemming from the same event (like September 11), but also different events that happen simultaneously in time. No trauma is the same, and no trauma is greater than. “The Experience of Living and the Connection of Experience” is an interactive virtual mural that provides a space where a community can share their trauma and see how they weave together within one timeline. It is a virtual community free of judgement and aims to remove any biases that normally hinder people from connecting.
Funding for “The experience of living and the connection of experience” was provided by The Luminary’s Futures Fund Regranting Initiative
About the Artist
Wyndi DeSouza is a New Jersey born artist that utilizes multiple mediums to present what she calls abstract data. Every project she works on builds upon a non-traditional archive that presents a story from those who willingly share. Her archive presents images and data maps that visualize location, emotion, and relationships between others. It counters representation by seeking to visualize the intangible and unquantifiable while challenging traditional means of documentation. Though born in New Jersey, Wyndi’s studio practice is based in St. Louis, Missouri. She credits the distance from home and family as the main influencer of her work.
